Successful participation of the Dream Team at ONPHA conference in Ottawa

Oct 19, 2008

Oct. 20, 2008.  Members of the the Dream Team concluded successfully their participation at the Annual confrence of the Ontario Non Profit Housing Association - ONPHA.  This year our members attended in record mumbers, 12 participants, and delivered presentations at the Members Lounge and a workshop during the final day of the conference.

The Dream Team Dream Bigger, as our workshop was named, was designed to tell the story and evolution of the Dream Team from a losely formed group of consumer survivors who wanted to find their own voice to a well respected organization that conducts public education, research and advocacy.  As usual, the stories of the Dream Team were able to capture the imagination those present in the workshop. See the story below for media coverage of this presentation.

"Dream Team" left nightmares behind - Jennifer Campbell, The Ottawa Citizen

Sunday, October 19, 2008

OTTAWA - Bradley Mulder's parents split up when he was 17 and that drove him to drugs, alcohol "and a lot of irrational behaviour." He didn't really go off the rails, though, until his own marriage, which produced a son and a daughter, ended.

"I was in and out of jails and penitentiaries - and I was homeless and jobless for 17 years," Mr. Mulder said. "I was hopelessly addicted (to cocaine) and I was feeding my addiction. I had no hope and no home and no way out of my self-imposed hell."

Today, he's an activist for safe, secure and affordable quality housing, what he calls supportive housing. He spoke at the final session of the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association's conference in Ottawa this weekend.
