Dream Team Annual Fundraising Dinner -April 29

Apr 9, 2010

You are invited to attend the Dream Team Annual Fundraising Dinner, which will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 29th 2010 at the Lithuanian House (1573 Bloor Street West, one block west of the Dundas West subway).

As you know, the Dream Team is a group mental health consumers and family members who conduct political advocacy, research, and public education on issues related to mental health and addictions. For over a decade, we have advocated for supportive housing as a cost-efficient way of assisting the recovery of people who experience homelessness and who live with mental health and addiction issues.

This year, our members have pursued our public education and advocacy goals by engaging in the development of a number of promising public policy initiatives. These include the City of Toronto’s Ten Year Housing Strategy: Housing Opportunities Toronto; The Ontario Ministry of Health Strategy on Mental Health and Addictions; and the Ontario Long Term Affordable Housing Strategy. Our members have also been involved in different projects initiated by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, such as the At Home/Chez Soi demonstration project and the Opening Minds anti-stigma study.  We are also proud to announce that the process of developing our “We Are Neighbours” study was the topic of an article published in the Fall/09 issue of the Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health; the article explores the intersections of community-based research and mental health recovery. Each of us on the Dream Team is grateful to our fellow members, our community partners and friends, and our funders, all of whom make it possible for the Dream Team to continue our work.

We look forward to sharing this year’s successes with you on April 29, and to celebrate the achievements of an organization that was founded by and continues to be led by consumer survivors.  Once again the Dream Team dinner will showcase the stories and talent of its members. Guest speakers this year will be anti-poverty advocate Pat Capponi who will be the first recipient of the Dream Team’s Eliana Roman Memorial Award and Tatum Wilson, chief policy advisor to the Ontario Health Minister.

Tickets are $30.00, or $270.00 for a table of nine seats.

For further information and to reserve a ticket/table please contact the Dream Team office at 416.5126.1422 ext 263 or e-mail coordinator@thedreamteam.ca .
